State Senator Diaz Stands Against Gay Marriage Though Lesbian Granddaughter Rebels
A massive rally was held last Sunday at the Bronze Supreme Court against gay marriage. As we reported recently former
President Clinton announced he
'changed his mind' about gay marriage though he signed into law
the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which in the 1990's, Clinton was totally against gay marriage and the illegal union of same sex relationships.
Well,
State Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr. held the rally against gay marriage going into law in New York but his granddaughter has a difference stance on the issue. The senator's lesbian granddaughter
Erica Diaz showed up at a smaller protest against her grandfather's views stating:
"I started crying a little bit because they don't believe we're people," as she posed for cameras with her girlfriend.
Ruben Diaz, Sr is a Pentecostal preacher and believes in "traditional" marriage between a man and a woman. He marched with supporters holding signs stating
"God's Marriage = 1 man & 1 woman" and "Gay Marriage Is Against the Word of God."
"He's not homophobic. He's just against us getting married. I respect that he's firm on what he believes in, but it bothers me. It hurts," stated Diaz.
Erica Diaz hopes even though her grandfather opposes gay marriage, he will attend her marriage with girlfriend. Senator Diaz stated,
"I would not go to the wedding," but he respects her decision.
Diaz spoke to the group of protesters:
"To the whole group that is up there, we all respect you and we love you," he told the opposing protest.
Granddaughter Erica Diaz made her way over to her grandfather before the rally was over to reach out and hug him.
"This is my granddaughter," he announced in response. "And I love her."
We thought this was an important piece of news because the senator and pastor continues to stand against gay marriage as this is what the bible states but he shows total love and respect for his granddaughter. He's a very good model for other pastors with family or members in gay relationships. As Christians, we have to stand on the word of God but show love to those whom are mistaken and oppose the bible. This is the only way to win them to Christ- with love.
